Dhikala Zone is one of the most visited Safari zone of the Jim Corbett National Park. The convergence of the two rivers, the river Mandal and the river Ramganga in the Jim Corbett National Park is the place where you can catch a glimpse of many beautiful exotic birds like Ultramarine Flycatcher, Blue-winged Minla, Long-tailed Broadbill, etc. The region around the Gairal forest rest house in the Dhikala zone and the large grasslands of Dhikala and Bijrani zones are the best places for the bird watching in Corbett forest. Also, the hilly terrain of the Durgadevi zone is known for the rich Natural beauty as well as the excellent bird sighting. During the winter season, the bird species like waders, herons, egrets, ducks, etc. are easily seen in the Ramganga River and its various channels while the Kosi River filled with the birds like Great Thicknee, Wall Creeper, Ibisbill, etc.
Other birds found here are- Darter, Little Green Heron, Crested Hawk Eagle, Indian Ring Dove, Spotted Dove, Golden Oriole, Lesser Pied Kingfisher, Rose ringed Parakeet and many more.
Dhikala/Gairal, is the heart of the Jim Corbett National Park. The grassland of Dhikala is the best place for bird watching. More than 50 species of birds are found here. Large owls include the Brown Fish Owl and the rare Tawny Fish Owl. You can also see Hen Harrier, Red Avadavat, Bright-headed Cisticola, Chestnut-capped Babbler and Grass Owl. In winters, the Ramganga Lake is full by waders, herons, ducks, and egrets in large numbers. Pallases and Osprey Fish Eagle are also commonly seen here. The river Kosi is the best place to view Great Thick knee, Ibisbill and Wall Creeper. Winter and summer seasons are ideal to visit Jim Corbett National Park. The best time for birding is from October to May.
A total of 488 different species of plants have been recorded in the park. Tree density inside the reserve is higher in the areas of Sal forests. Total tree basal cover is greater in Sal dominated areas of woody vegetation. More than 586 species of resident and migratory birds have been categorized, including the crested serpent eagle, blossom-headed parakeet and the red junglefowl — an ancestor of all domestic fowl 33 species of reptiles, seven species of amphibians, seven species of fish and 36 species of dragonflies have also been recorded.

By Train: Ramnagar is conveniently connected to rest of India, and specially with Delhi, the capital of India, by rail Network. You can reach various ranges of Jim Corbett National Park from Ramnagar railway station within few minutes to an hour.
By Road: Ramnagar has excellent road connectivity with Delhi. Distance between Delhi and Ramnagar is 300 KM.
To visit various ranges of Jim Corbett National park, you have to higher a Jeep safari and you have to adhere to entry and exit time of the range. Personal vehicles are not allowed in any range. Dhikala is the only range where Jeep safari is allowed for only those travellers who have booked their stay in any of the Forest rest house of Dhikala range. Others can book a sixteen seater canter (mini bus). Forest rest house, jeep safari and canter safari are to be booked online. Forest rest house booking is made available online 45 days prior to the date of visit. There are elephant safari as well when you stay at Dhikala FRH or at Dhangadi Gate which is 30 kms away from the Dhikala FRH. If seats are available, Canter seats for Dhikala range can also be booked from Ramnagar office of Park Authorities of Corbett National Park.

When is the best time to visit Jim Corbett?
Jim Corbett is in the area of Ramnagar and in general, forest area in and around Ramnagar is all time accessible, but one must avoid it after sun set.
Reserved forest ranges of Jim Corbett have strict timing which is already available in this article.
